Path of the Tarot: Journey of the Fool

Fool — Definition
A person who acts unwisely or imprudently; a silly person.

Root of the Word
From Old French fol — “fool, foolish,”
from Latin follis — “bellows, windbag,”
by extension, “an empty-headed person.”

In modern language, we like to think that we are not a Fool. That it’s a bad thing — a name no one wants to be called.
Yet on every journey, we begin as the Fool: the one who steps forward without all the knowledge, perhaps even seen by others as reckless for daring to step into the unknown.

But the Fool is more than that.
It is the stage where we take our first trembling steps — where we fall, rise, and try again.
We are always on the path of the Fool, always learning, always stepping forward on shaken legs. And that is where our power lives — in our bravery, even in the smallest of choices.

In a world where everyone has an opinion, shouting from behind their keyboards of judgment, it’s important to remember this:
Those shaken steps are the ones most envied. They are the proof of courage.

We move forward on our journeys, meeting teachers and mirrors along the way. We stumble, rise, and gather wisdom as we travel toward ourselves.

The Fool’s number is 0 — the circle, the void, the seed.
In numerology, zero represents limitless possibility.
It holds no value on its own, yet when placed beside other numbers, it magnifies them.
A reminder that even what seems like “nothing” can hold infinite potential.

Light & Shadow
In her light, she is trust, freedom, and sacred curiosity — a reminder that beginnings ask only for openness, not certainty.

In her shadow, she becomes scattered or naïve, mistaking escape for adventure.

But even foolishness carries its own magic; as a teacher, a chance.

✨ Where are you being called to begin again?
✨ What would it mean to trust your next step without knowing the outcome?
